Call summary :

The “Improving Community Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in Informal Settlements in Homs and Aleppo” project is a central initiative under UN-Habitat’s Integrated Post-Earthquake and Early Recovery Project, launched in response to the February 2023 earthquake that severely affected informal settlements in these cities. Focusing on the neighborhood of Al-Bayada in Homs and Al-Fardos neighborhood in - Bab Al Nyrab Service Directorate in Aleppo, the project aims to build urban community-based resilience by enhancing local preparedness and response capacity for future disasters. This effort forms part of a broader, integrated recovery strategy led by UN-Habitat in Syria.

The selected Implementing Partner (IP) will be tasked with assembling and training a team of volunteers to serve as Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) trainers, who will subsequently train additional volunteer groups at the neighborhood level under the supervision of the IP. The IP will also coordinate the implementation of Hazard, Vulnerability, and Risk Assessments, develop neighborhood-specific disaster risk management plans for each neighborhood, and lead awareness campaigns on disaster risk reduction (DRR). Adopting a participatory, community-based approach, the IP will collaborate closely with relevant stakeholders, directorate staff, and municipal authorities in Homs and Aleppo. All training materials and outputs must be shared with UN-Habitat, and site selection will be aligned with UN-Habitat’s recovery plans, with strict adherence to established project timelines.

The maximum proposed value is US$: $ 175,000.
