Call summary :
Humanitarian situations have become recurrent in Armenia. In line with the Core Commitment for Children (CCC), which promotes predictable, effective, and timely coordinated humanitarian action, UNICEF is following strategic approaches to improve emergency preparedness and response in Armenia.
The main goal of emergency response efforts is to assist affected populations on time, as outlined in the CCC. Several types of humanitarian assistance and life-saving emergency supplies are essential to achieve this goal. Therefore, proper preparedness and response in the country are critically essential. UNICEF focuses on addressing the acute humanitarian needs of children affected by crises, while enhancing local capacities to bolster national child protection and emergency response systems. Informed by previous crisis’ responses, UNICEF seeks to geographically diversify humanitarian partnerships with community-based CSOs that work closely with local and regional authorities for emergency preparedness and response as well as have coverage beyond one consolidated community and possess both the professional capacity and the accessibility to immediately participate in response operations as a partner of UNICEF CO. Based on the risk assessment of the country office, Gegharkunik is exposed to potential conflict spillovers as well as natural hazards.
Furthermore, according to the INFORM sub-national risk index for Armenia, Gegharkunik is included amongst three marzes lacking risk coping capacities. Therefore, UNICEF is seeking to establish contingency partnership with a community-based CSO in Gegharkunik region to enhance local emergency preparedness and response capacities for provision of phycological first aid; mental health and psychosocial support to the children and their caregivers affected by crises.
Expected Results
1 Empowerment, resilience building and provision of psychological first aid to adolescents exposed to crises.
2 Establishment of child-friendly space for providing MHPSS services to children and their caregivers exposed to crises.
3 Distribution of emergency supplies to children and their caregivers.
